Washington, DC-based singer Shannon is known worldwide for her gold and Platinum trendsetting, pulsating dance classics "Let The Music Play" and "Give Me Tonight." In the mid-‘80s, her releases helped lay the foundation for the '90s electronica music genre. From her platinum-plus debut album, these tunes topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, and reached the number-two spot on the R&B charts, while also becoming Pop hits.
When Eric “E-Smoove” Miller teamed up with Chantay Savage early in her career to write “The Rain Song,” it proved to be a great match for Shannon’s debut on Steve “Silk” Hurley’s red-hot ID Records. E-Smoove would produce this now-classic tune, with help on vocal arrangements by the late Donnell Rush, and Savage, who was also the singer of the original song demo, and co-writer of CeCe Peniston’s “We Got A Love Thang” with E-Smoove and Jere McAlister.
